About DBT:

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a powerful treatment initially designed to treat individuals diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder.
However, it has been scientifically proven to be effective with:
• Eating Disorders
• Depression
• Anxiety
• Substance Abuse
• Self-Mutilation
• Suicidal Ideation

DBT has several components when it is used at full capacity. Those are: Weekly Individual and/or Family therapy, Skills training group, On-call skills coaching.

Focus in DBT is on balancing acceptance of suffering with help to create change.
For many, life just is not worth living, and because suffering is so great, we engage in self harming behaviors (this may include dysfunctional eating, substance use, or self-mutilation/suicide).
The overall goal of DBT is to develop what is necessary to make a life worth living by the standards of the client. NOT convince him/her that their life is currently worth living.

We achieve these goals together by finding replacement behaviors (skills) to use in lieu of self-harm. Self-harm is unlikely to be given up if there is no replacement. The reason for this, is that self-harming behaviors are effective! That’s why people do them! However, self-harming behavior has a hefty price tag-scars, loss of relationships, jobs, needing to use them over and over etc. Skills on the other hand, are more effective, give longer relief, and the relief lasts a longer period of time with no negative consequences. Imagine that! Relief without all of those negative consequences, that lasts longer!
With my help, you can achieve a life worth living, with increased ability to tolerate distress, get a handle on your emotions, and be in the captain seat of your own emotional ship!
